2. Click "Sign Up" (gold box, right hand side of page)
3. Fill in the fields: name, user name (pick one), password, and email
4. Click "Create My Account"
5. Type in the security verification message
6. You will be taken to your new homepage.
7. Towards the top of the page will be the search bar. Type in my user name: KirschHistory
8. My icon/picture is a walking camel. Click on the grey "Follow" button.
Now that you follow me, there are 4 ways to get my updates:
1. You can view them in the sidebar on my website.
2. You can log onto twitter from either a phone or a computer and you will see all of my tweets.
3. If you have a smartphone, you can download a twitter app for your phone to see all my tweets.
4. You can also have all of my tweets sent to you directly by text message. To do this, there are a few more steps to complete:
a. In the top-right corner of your twitter homepage, you will see your user name next to a drop-down arrow.
b. Click the drop-down arrow, and then click on “Settings.”
c. Click on the blue heading “Mobile.”
d. Input your cell number into the box. Uncheck “Let others find me by my phone number” if you want your number to remain private. Click the blue “Start” button.
e. Text the word “go” to 40404.
f. When the new screen comes up, make sure that you have checked the box “Tweets from people you’ve enabled for mobile notifications.”
g. Click “Save”
h. Return to your homepage and click “Following” (towards the top of the right-hand side of the page).
i. On the left-hand side of the page, you will see a list of all the people you follow. Click on KirschHistory.
j. When you click my name, the right side of the screen pops up with my most recent tweets. You will see a green button that says “Following.” Directly next to “Following” is a ¼” grey icon with a miniature cell phone in it. Click this icon once. Its message should now say, “Tweets from this user are sent to your mobile phone.”
k. From that point forward, you will receive a text message every time I send a tweet.
(These directions were from Spring of 2011. Hopefully twitter has not changed the process.)
